Darren Randolph has told Middlesbrough he wants to sign for West Ham as they prepare to increase their initial £2million bid, Football Insider has learned.

The Hammers have made the Republic of Ireland international, 32, their first choice as they look sign a proven keeper to back up number one Lukasz Fabianski.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Randolph has made it clear to Boro chiefs he is keen to return to the Premier League club for a second spell.

Football Insider broke the news yesterday that West Ham are to follow up their initial £2million offer with a second improved bid for Randolph as they look to secure an early-window deal.

Middlesbrough are holding out for a bigger sum but they do not value him quite as much as the £5million fee they paid to lure him from the London outfit in 2017.

The experienced keeper has 18 months remaining on his contract and has missed the north-east club's last nine league matches while struggling with a thigh injury.

His absence has coincided with an upturn in results and could mean Jonathan Woodgate sticking with Aynsley Pears in goal.

New Hammers manager has David Moyes given the green light for West Ham to push ahead with their pursuit of Randolph after the club felt they had no choice following the wretched displays of Roberto Jimenez during Fabianski's three-month absence.

Randolph was previously at the Irons for two years and has been targeted again because he is proven in the Premier League.

He made 42 appearances for the club during his first spell, conceding 61 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets.
