Rangers have rejected a bid from Peterborough United for George Edmundson, Football Insider has learned.

The Championship new boys are keen on signing the centre-back two years after the Light Blues beat them to his signature.

A source has told Football Insider Peterborough have followed up their interest with an offer for Edmundson but Rangers have knocked it back.

That seemingly ends Posh’s hopes of luring the central defender this summer.

Darren Ferguson remains keen on the 23-year-old who signed for Rangers instead of Peterborough from Oldham Athletic in 2019.

Edmundson spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Derby County as they narrowly avoided relegation.

He played just two games for the Gers last season before making 10 Championship appearances in his temporary spell with the Rams.

The move came after he was suspended by Rangers in November for attending a party with Jordan Jones that broke covid rules.

The Englishman has failed to nail down a regular starting spot in Steven Gerrard's starting XI in his two years at Ibrox.

Gerrard bolstered his defensive ranks in January with the addition of Jack Simpson from Bournemouth.

Experienced trio Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Filip Helander are all also above Edmundson in the pecking order.

The Manchester-born ace has scored twice and provided one assist in 17 games across all competitions for Gerrard's side.
