Sources: Walton agrees Brighton settlement and terms of Ipswich Town contract
Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton has agreed a two-and-a half year deal with Ipswich Town, Football Insider understands.
The 26-year-old has spent the first half of the season on loan at Ipswich before being recalled after Saturday’s game with Bolton.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Walton has reached a settlement agreement to leave Brighton and will then make the move to Portman Road permanent.
This site revealed on Monday (17 January) that Ipswich were in advanced talks to sign Walton on a long-term deal after a breakthrough in talks.
Walton's contract at Brighton expires in the summer but he is now set to sign permanently for the League One big hitters.
Luton Town were also reportedly in the race for the former England under-21 international.
Walton has made 18 appearances for the Blues this season, one of which was Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Bolton.
Speaking on the goalkeeper’s future after the defeat, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna said: “We’re working hard to make sure he’s with us for the rest of the year.”
The English shot-stopper initially moved to Portman Road on a season-long loan deal last August.
Brighton manager Graham Potter has deemed Walton surplus to requirements at the Amex Stadium.
Walton has spent almost the entirety of his senior career out on loan.
He has made just six senior appearances for the Seagulls.
Ipswich Town are currently 11th in League One and eight points off the play-off spots.
