West Ham are to open new contract talks with Manuel Lanzini in the coming weeks, Football Insider understands.

The attacking midfielder is out of contract at the club next year but the Hammers have an option to extend it by two more years until the summer of 2022.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider they are eager to tie the Argentine, 26, down to a long-term deal that replaces the £70,000-a-week agreement he signed in 2016 following an initial season-long loan.

Negotiations will begin following the end of the Premier League season as the London club's hierarchy work on keeping hold of one of their star men.

Lanzini has missed a big chunk of this campaign through the knee injury that ruled him out of last summer's World Cup, making just nine appearances in total.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini is a big admirer of the playmaker, who has made 108 appearances for the club in four years, yielding 20 goals and 17 assists.

Pellegrini was vague over Lanzini's contract situation last week, claiming he was uncertain how long the player had left on his agreement.
