Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn is set for a Norwich City medical today (21st June) in a blow to Leeds United, Football Insider has learned.

The Premier League new boys have fended off late competition from United to seal a deal for their former academy product and loanee.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Gunn, 25, will undergo the first stage of medical tests before penning a long-term deal with Norwich.

The Canaries have agreed a fee with Southampton for the goalkeeper that will rise above £5million.

Leeds had hoped to win the race for the former England Under-21 international.

As revealed by this site earlier this month, the Yorkshire giants registered their interest in Gunn as they looked to hijack Norwich's deal and pay the asking price.

United are looking for cover and competition for Illan Meslier as they look to offload number two Kiko Casilla this summer.

But Gunn will now head back to Carrow Road and look to reignite a career that stalled last season at Southampton.

He had fallen down the pecking order behind Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster before being loaned out to Championship outfit Stoke City last October for most of the season.

He missed two months with an ankle injury but made 15 Championship appearances for the Potters.

Norwich, where Gunn spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan, moved to be reunited with the son of club legend Bryan.

He has made a total of 22 Premier League appearances, but most of his senior matches have come in the Championship.
