Stefan Borson: This is why Nottingham Forest could accept ‘huge’ Elliot Anderson offer
Nottingham Forest are expected to be presented with offers for star midfielder Elliot Anderson following his performances at the City Ground.
It is believed Anderson is Manchester United’s top midfield target as they continue to build a team for the future.
Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in Anderson alongside the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and his former club Newcastle United.
Forest value Anderson highly, with The Telegraph reporting on 17 November Sean Dyche’s side are holding out for a fee in excess of £100million for his services.
Nottingham Forest could cash in on Elliot Anderson opportunity
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Forest could accept a “huge” offer for Anderson as they are expected to be close to the spending limits.
Forest are likely to breach Uefa’s financial rules, while they were previously deducted four points for breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about whether Forest could sell Anderson, Borson said: “It depends whether they want to sell. Do they really want to sell? Why would they be so keen to sell?
“They're a club who for the last few years have been focused on building and development, and they fought very hard not to sell Gibbs-White. It doesn't seem to me obvious that you then want to be pushing Anderson out and talking up his value.
“Maybe they think there's an opportunity, and you have to be opportunistic. Maybe they're still tight on PSR, Uefa FFP and all that sort of stuff, and they probably are quite tight on all of those tests. They have been quite aggressive, and it takes a long time for all of this stuff to flow through.”
Forest signed Anderson from Newcastle in the summer of 2024, with the deal worth around £35m.
Nottingham Forest facing 'odd' Anderson situation
Borson insisted there is something “odd” about the reports around Anderson’s situation at the City Ground.
“I could theoretically see that there is some upside to them banking a huge profit, of course,” said Borson.
“But it doesn't fit with that. It's not really the usual behavior, certainly not at this stage.
“There's something a bit odd with the whole situation. I think there's a bit too much noise about that individual compared to what we usually hear.”
Anderson has started in all 15 of his appearances for Forest under three different managers this season.
