Rangers will embark on their January break after next Saturday's clash with Celtic at Parkhead and it may be the final competitive game for some of the Ibrox players.

Pedro Caixinha spent a lot of money in the summer on strengthening his squad but after just a few months into the season, the Portuguese manager was sacked by a board that had lost it's patience after humiliating results continued to pile up.

The majority of Caixinha's summer recruits have failed to live up to their billing, and their price tags, so it would not be a surprise to see a few of them shown the exit door at Ibrox.

Graeme Murty and Mark Allen will have a tough task of strengthening what there already is at Rangers.

The first-half of the season has exposed some serious flaws in the squad, but with a lack of funds, it is expected that the Gers would either have to poach cheap deals, or sell existing players in order to reinvest some money.

Here, Football Insider looks at three players who may potentially be starring for the final time in the Rangers shirt in the Old Firm clash with Celtic at Parkhead next weekend.

Bruno Alves

Rangers

Alves, 36, was Caixinha's marquee signing in the summer but his form has been well below what has been expected, leading to Murty to occasionally drop him from the side.

The Portugal international, who is gunning for a spot at the World Cup in 2018, was left out of the Old Firm defeat to Celtic at Ibrox earlier this season as he jetted off to Spain for treatment on an injury.

He was again left out of the defeat to Kilmarnock on Saturday as he keeps jumping in and out of Murty's matchday squad.

As Alves did not play against Celtic last time out, he would probably be involved in the Old Firm derby next week - but that could be his final game for Rangers.

Eduardo Herrera

Rangers

Herrera has featured in all but three of Rangers' Scottish Premiership games this season - but has only earned one start and as a result has just one goal to his name in the competition.

The nine-times Mexico international is simply not good enough for the Light Blues and Murty is yet to hand him more than 45 minutes' worth of action in any one game.

As Herrera is a regular player to feature off the bench, he may make his last appearance against Celtic - however it could be for mere seconds.

Alfredo Morelos

Rangers

One man that has come in at Rangers and hit the ground running is Alfredo Morelos - but his time in Glasgow could be just as short-lived as Herrera's and Alves'.

The Light Blues do not want to let the Colombian goal machine leave Ibrox half way through the season but if the money is too good to refuse, there is every chance that Murty may lose his main source of goals.

Several clubs across Europe also have their eyes on the former HJK Helsinki star, who has proved to be one of the few hits of the summer transfer window.

Morelos has made 23 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 11 goals in the process.

Aston Villa are short of strikers themselves and sources close to Football Insider revealed earlier this season that manager Steve Bruce is awaiting the go-ahead to launch a pursuit of Morelos.

With his usual starting spot in the Rangers team under no threat, the game at Celtic next week could well be his last in the famous blue kit.
