Danny Ings would be the "perfect" backup striker for Tottenham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward suggested Spurs can take advantage of Ings' contract situation and seal a deal this summer.

The Athletic's David Ornstein reported on 5 July the striker has knocked back a lucrative contract offer by Southampton and wants to challenge himself at a big club.

The Telegraph reported on 13 July Nuno Espirito Santo wants to bring Ings to Tottenham and play him up front with Harry Kane.

"I think it's a no-brainer for Spurs," Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

"They have been crying out for a player like Ings. We've seen them struggle with backup strikers. Ings would be a perfect backup striker but one who can play as a number 10 and start as well, not just sit on the bench.

"He can create solutions for the manager with different formations. He can play anywhere along the front three.

"Nuno Espirito Santo likes to play the five at the back so Ings and Kane would be perfect for that formation.

"For me, it's a no-brainer. Ings doesn't want to sign a new contract at Southampton so I can see it's happening, yes."

Carlos Vinicius spent last season on loan with Spurs as the second-choice striker but failed to impress.

He found the net just once in nine Premier League games and Tottenham decided to not take up the option to make his move permanent.
