Leicester City are confident of signing striker Jacob Wakeling after an impressive trial.

A Leicester source has told us the offer is of £10,000 for the 19-year-old, who was released by West Brom when his contract expired at the end of June.

He joined non-league outfit Alvechurch on a free transfer and signed a one-year deal that runs until next summer.

It is now looking unlikely he will complete it after making such an impact while on trial at high-flying Leicester.

Wakeling scored twice for the Foxes Under-23s as they thumped 10-man Brighton 4-0 last weekend.

This was his second appearance for Leicester's development squad and he has done enough to convince the club coaches of his potential.

The have given the green light for Leicester to offer him a contract.

The £10,000 offer to seventh-tier Alvechurch for his services could also be enough for the teenager to follow in the footsteps of Alan Smith.

The former England and Arsenal striker netted 84 times after being plucked from the Worcestershire side.

Leicester hero Jamie Vardy, destined to go down in the history books as the club's greatest-ever player, has made a staggering impact after his arrival from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for a non-league record £1.7m.
