Burnley are keen to listen to offers for James Tarkowski in a major boost to long-term suitors West Ham, Football Insider understands.

It has been reported this week that the centre-back, 28, wants to see out the final year of his Clarets contract and leave on a free transfer next year.

But a Burnley source has told Football insider that the club do not want to lose Tarkowski for nothing in a year's time and would prefer to cash in during the current window.

That will put West Ham and other Premier League clubs on red alert.

This site revealed earlier this month the Irons have registered their interest in Tarkowski this summer after failing to land him last year.

West Ham submitted a series of bids rising to £30million for the defender last year but Burnley held firm.

Sean Dyche's side subsequently tried to secure Tarkowski to a new contract but he went public to reveal the offer was well below his expectations.

He is in a strong negotiating position, as remaining at Turf Moor until he becomes a free agent next summer would allow him to command a huge contract and signing-on fee with no transfer fee involved.

Burnley's chance of stance compared to a year ago presents an intriguing option for West Ham.

Tarkowski made 36 Premier League appearances last season as Burnley once again avoided the drop.

He joined the club in 2016 from Brentford and has so far made 182 appearances.
