Trezeguet slammed as Aston Villa agree deal - Agbonlahor
Trezeguet was never good enough for the Premier League and Aston Villa will be hoping to raise as much money as possible from his sale, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League scorer admitted he never thought Trezeguet would be a success in claret and blue.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday (20 June) that the 27-year-old is close to joining Turkish club Trabzonspor for a £3million fee.
He only has a year left on his Aston Villa contract and is one of a number of fringe players that Steven Gerrard is trying to move on this summer.
The Egpyt international spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir where he scored six goals in 13 Super Lig games.
“I’ve always not thought he was Villa standard, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Even when he first signed, I didn’t think he was a player who was going to get us where we needed to go. A decent player but, for me, not Premier League quality.
“Aston Villa will be looking to get as much money as they can. There will not be many teams in for him.
“If you can get £3million, you take it. That can then go towards another transfer or somebody’s wages. It’s just about getting a fee in really.”
Trezeguet moved to Villa Park when the club won promotion back to the Premier League in the summer of 2019.
He scored three times in the final four games of the 2019-20 season to help them avoid relegation and also netted the winner against Leicester City which sent them to the EFL Cup final that season.
