Man United and Newcastle are putting plans in place to sign Southampton star Tyler Dibling after his impressive displays so far this season.

This is according to former United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that scouts from both clubs have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old's progress.

Now, Newcastle have also joined the race for his signature as they want to strengthen their squad, with a new right-winger among their priorities.

Brown has explained that both clubs are planning to make a move to sign the winger at the end of the season amid the threat of relegation at Southampton.

Southampton remain unwilling to sell a star player mid-way through the season given their league position, meaning any deal is unlikely to take place in January.

Man United and Newcastle race to sign Tyler Dibling

Football Insider revealed on 2 November that Man United are looking to sign young talents and develop them into superstars at Old Trafford - and Dibling ticks that box.

Now, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at United during their most successful period, has insisted that

"Man United and Newcastle have had scouts watching him," he told Football Insider.

"They're not the only interested clubs, but they're having a look and keeping an eye on his progress to see if he would fit in their sides.

"Both clubs will have to make an assessment about his value and what they'd be willing to pay because Southampton will have a price in mind.

"He's another wide player, which isn't a priority for Man United in January, but they always want to recruit the best young talent.

"Newcastle, though, are looking for a wide player and he certainly fits the bill there.

"Southampton aren't going to let him leave while they're in the middle of a relegation battle, so I wouldn't expect a deal to happen in January.

"But if they go down, it's out of their hands.

"So if either of those clubs are going to make a move for him, it will be at the end of the season when they know more about his and Southampton's situation."
