Alan Hutton has lauded the “unbelievable” scouting team at Ibrox after Rangers agreed terms to sign Bournemouth midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh on a free transfer.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the Light Blues have unearthed another “gem” in a similar mould to that of 2020 signing Calvin Bassey.
As revealed by Football Insider, Rangers have taken advantage of cross-border transfer rules to reach agreement in principle over a pre-contract deal with the 21-year-old, with an announcement expected this week.
Bassey was also signed on a free transfer following his departure from Leicester City last summer and has gone on to become an important squad member under Steven Gerrard.
Hutton admits he is amazed by how many exciting young prospects the Gers’ recruitment team have managed to discover and snap up in recent years and that Ofoborh looks another top signing.
Hutton told Football Insider: “It is unbelievable when they’re coming out with these gems right, left and centre. It is very much like the Calvin Bassey one for me, they have obviously been tracking him for a while.
“I had to look him up, he obviously had a good time at Wycombe last season in their promotion campaign and just reading some things about him from past players that have played along with them, he is definitely one for the future.
“I mean he fits the mould of Rangers at the moment, they’re definitely building something and it’s not just for this season or the next, it’s for the next four, five, six which I really like.
“So he fits that mould just like a lot of other players that they are trying to bring in and he looks a good player. When you look at his clips, he is strong, he is physical, he can go past people, he’s got a good range of passing, so he takes all the boxes.
“Credit to the scouting team, they’re unearthing a lot of gems at the moment.”
