Reiss Nelson is expected to be loaned out by Arsenal in January – and it will be the making of him.
That is according to ex-Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs about the 21-year-old winger.
Nelson has been a fringe figure at the Emirates Stadium this season and his nine appearances in all competitions have not included a Premier League start.
Campbell is convinced the wide attacker is a big talent but claims he cannot go to the next level unless he is playing regularly.
He expects the youngster to be given the green light for a January loan but would prefer him to join a Championship club to a Premier League one.
“Some of these very gifted, talent youngsters have to play regular football,” Campbell told Football Insider. “Once they play regular football they will be much better players when they come back at Arsenal.
“Being a bit-part player is one thing but regular games, regular starts makes a massive difference to the psyche of the player.
“I’m told Reiss Nelson, possibly Joe Willock, may be going out on loan in January. It would be really good for their careers.
“I think Nelson could go to a Premier League or a Championship club. But the Championship is tougher, that might be a better move.”
Nelson has made 46 appearances for Arsenal that have yielded four goals but has not had the same impact he did while on loan at Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim two seasons ago.
The 21 year old’s last appearance was on 3 December in the 4-1 Europa League win over Rapid Vienna and Mikel Arteta has claimed he has had niggling injury issues.
