Rangers fans urge Caixinha to re-sign 27-year-old attacker after international wonder goal

By Will Butcher

Rangers fans want new manager Caixinha to re-sign winger Vladimir Weiss, six years after he left Ibrox.

Weiss, 27, scored a superb curling effort in just the second minute of Slovakia’s 3-1 win over Malta on Sunday in Group F of the 2018 World Cup qualifying phase.

The former Olympiacos, Bolton and Espanyol star then played a crucial part in doubling Slovakia’s lead, supplying midfielder Jan Gregus who stroked home a second from long range.

Currently with Qatari side Al-Gharafa, the 58-time international is admired on the terraces at Ibrox after a loan spell from Manchester City back in 2010-11.

With a contract until 2020, it remains unclear how much Middle East outfit Al-Gharafa would charge for the fleet-footed winger, should Rangers make an approach in the summer.

Nonetheless, Rangers fans have urged manager Pedro Caixinha to look into the possibility of handing Weiss an Ibrox return at the end of the season to boost their chances of rivalling Celtic.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

During his time with the Gers, Weiss made 35 league and cup appearances and supplied a huge 15 assists, as well as scoring five times against the likes of Motherwell, Aberdeen and Hamilton.

In other Rangers transfer news, Caixinha’s side should also re-sign this Premier League midfielder and here is why.
