Noel Whelan hailed Ben White for a “fantastic” season at Elland Road and urged Leeds United to “stump up the money” to sign him.
The former Whites and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, was adamant there will be “a real battle” for the 22-year-old’s signature this summer.
The centre-half capped an incredible season, in which he played every single minute for the champions, with a sensational goal against Charlton last night.
Football Insider understands that if the club want to make his signing permanent they would have to pay Brighton £35million.
Leeds will also face stiff competition from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United, Man City and Leicester City for the defender.
When asked by Football Insider if he was confident a deal could be completed in the next 10 weeks, Whelan said: “It looks like there will be a real battle there.
“Brighton are looking forward to having him back and we definitely want him.
“Ben White has had a fantastic time at Leeds and he has enjoyed his time here. He is only going to get better.
“If Leeds want him they know they will have to stump up the money and the £8million save on Jack Harrison will go a fair way to it.”
Phil Hay revealed that Leeds have agreed another loan deal with Manchester City for Jack Harrison and opt to sign him permanently next summer.
The deal will be in the region of £10million but will free up funds for potential transfers in the upcoming window which opens on Monday.
