Rangers manager Steven Gerrard insists he is “delighted” to have Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox – after continued speculation over the Colombian’s future.
Reports in Turkey have linked the striker with moves to Fenerbahce and an un-named Chinese side but Gerrard is adamant the Light Blues “love” the prolific 21-year-old.
Gerrard admits that he knows what Morelos can add to his squad and summed him up succinctly as a “goal scorer.”
“We love the player. The fans love the player,” Gerrard told Radio Clyde.
“He’s a goal scorer. We know what he can add to this team and squad. If you’re asking me if his head has been turned that’s a question you’d have to ask the player himself.
“But where we stand right now he’s a Rangers player and I’m delighted to have him.”
Football Insider verdict:
There’s no doubting that Morelos is a prolific striker and without a replacement, selling Morelos would be a crazy idea. The Gers need to add strikers not sell them at the minute. At 21, Morelos can still get much better and really make the Light Blues a sizeable profit on their original £1million investment on him. With Kenny Miller gone and Jason Cummings’ looking like he isn’t coming back any time soon, Gerrard must have alternatives up his sleeve. For all the talk about Morelos, until someone actually comes in with a bid for the former HJK Helsinki striker, there isn’t anything to consider. Something that was often forgotten about Morelos was that he joined the Gers midway through the Finnish season last year. With a good rest and a pre-season under his belt, he really could be much-improved from the striker who tore up the Scottish Premiership last season.
