Celtic are closing in on the signing of Lewis Morgan from St Mirren, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that Morgan, 21, is expected to be officially unveiled as a Celtic player in 24 hours’ time as he may undergo a medical with the Glasgow giants on Wednesday.
It is understood that the Hoops have agreed with St Mirren that the Scottish forward will return to them on loan for the remainder of the season.
The report adds that Brendan Rodgers is a keen admirer of the £300,000-rated wide-forward, who can also play in a No 10 role.
Morgan has been in stunning form for St Mirren in the Scottish Championship this season.
The Scotland Under-21 international has made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and supplying eight assists in the process.
Football Insider verdict
Celtic have a lot of wingers on their books at the moment so it makes sense that Morgan is loaned out until the rest of the season. However injuries to Jonny Hayes and Patrick Roberts may mean that it would have been worthwile to try and keep him around, especially when Morgan is more of a left-sided player and Scott Sinclair is the only natural left-winger in the squad. Morgan is a great signing for the future though. He is bound to be a Scotland international within the next couple of years and he may even be worth a big amount should he ever attract attention from the Premier League.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops and bitter rivals Rangers have held talks over this South American defender.
