Sheffield Wednesday are offering Jordan Rhodes in a swap deal for Wigan Athletic playmaker and ex-Rangers star Josh Windass, Football Insider understands.
Garry Monk’s side have made a fresh move for the ex-Rangers ace, 26, after having an initial loan offer knocked back last week.
A Wednesday source has told Football Insider that the Owls have gone back in for Windass and this time offered Rhodes as part of an exchange deal.
The Yorkshire outfit regard it as a deal that could suit both parties.
Wigan have made prolific lower-league scorer Rhodes one of their top targets in this month’s transfer window as they look to bolster their attacking options.
A number of clubs have shown an interest in the Scotland international, but the Latics are hoping the possibility of a swap deal will put them in pole position to land the former Huddersfield and Middlesbrough striker.
Wednesday are reluctant to lose the 29-year-old as they battle for promotion, but Wigan are ready and willing to offer their own asset in a straight swap deal to try and force through a deal.
The Owls could be open to letting Rhodes move on if they can seal a deal to bring Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham on loan to Hillsborough for a third time, however.
The Scotland international has struggled to capture his best form in the Steel City, and has just 13 goals in 70 outings for Monk’s men.
