Wenham: Aurier told porkies to Tottenham chiefs over summer and stopped them selling teammate
Tottenham will look to sell Matt Doherty next summer after falling down the pecking order at the club.
That’s according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Doherty last played for Spurs in the Europa Conference League last week.
He was subsequently dropped for the weekend’s game against Chelsea and Wednesday’s cup win over Wolves.
Serge Aurier is one right-back who did leave Tottenham this summer though his future was subject to much speculation for most of the summer.
Aurier eventually left the club after his contract was mutually terminated, though Doherty remains behind new signing Emerson Royal in the pecking order.

Wenham claims Tottenham would have sold Doherty this summer if Aurier had made a quicker decision on his future.
“Tottenham would have accepted permanent departure offers for him this summer,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It was just the fact that, I believe Aurier led on the club a little bit. He was never as interested in staying as he said he was.
“He has consequently been paid up to leave on a free with one year left on his deal.
“Tottenham are now in a position where they will look to sell Doherty next summer.”
Doherty made 29 appearances during his debut Tottenham season.
However, only 13 of those outings were in the Premier League with the defender playing more regularly in Europe.
