West Brom are lining up a move for Sheffield United forward David McGoldrick, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Midlands outfit are in the market for a proven striker at Championship level ahead of the new season.

A West Brom source has told Football Insider that the club have made an approach for McGoldrick.

Sheffield United are willing to listen to offers for the 33-year-old, who is out of contract next year.

The club are keen to get one of their five strikers off the wage bill and there has been little interest in the others to date.

Centre-forwards Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin were released by Albion in May while loanee Mbaye Diagne returned to Galatasary.

Besides McGoldrick, the Blades have Lyss Mousset, Oli McBurnie, Daniel Jebbison and Billy Sharp on the books.

But Mousset failed to score last term while McBurnie and Jebbison found the net just once apiece.

McGoldrick meanwhile was the relegated side's top scorer with nine goals in 2020-21.

McGoldrick signed as a free agent in 2018 after his deal with previous club Ipswich Town expired.

His career has also taken in spells with Notts County, Southampton and Nottingham Forest among others.
