West Ham have been handed a major boost as they plot a summer swoop for Wigan Athletic star Antonee Robinson.

The London giants have yet to make firm transfer plans amid uncertainty over their Premier League status.

A Hammers source has told Football Insider that one player on the club’s radar regardless of which league the are in next season is Wigan left-back Robinson.

That pursuit will be aided by the financial chaos engulfing the Championship outfit.

Wigan last week announced they had entered administration and that will mean a fire sale of their prime playing assets in the next window.

Yatin Patel has been hired by Wigan to advise them on offloading players as they seek funds to cover the shortfall owed to creditors.

Significantly, the business partner of former Football League chairman Keith Harris played a crucial role in the complex transfer of Jarrod Bowen from Hull City to West Ham in January.

That deal was worth more than £20million including add-ons although it is likely Robinson will depart for around half that sum or less.

He was the subject of strong interest from AC Milan in January but Wigan knocked back a £6.5million offer.

The full-back has made a big impact for the Latics since joining on a £2million deal from Everton last summer following a successful loan deal the previous season.

The 22-year-old has played 59 games for Wigan but never made a first-team appearance during his time with the Premier League big guns.

In other West Ham news, the club plan to sell star signed for £18m at a huge loss.
