West Ham join Leeds in hunt for 24-goal centre-forward as London club plots £7m bid - report

West Ham have joined Leeds United and a clutch of other Championship teams in the hunt to sign Peterborough centre-forward Jack Marriott, according to a report.
The Sun claims that the Hammers have been scouting Marriott, 23, while Aston Villa, Millwall and QPR have also shown an interest in him.
However it is understood that the Hammers’ Premier League and London rivals Crystal Palace are ready to push themselves to the front of the queue in the chase for the former Luton striker, with the Eagles plotting a £7million bid.
The report says that Roy Hodgson sees Marriott as a signing for the future, although the south London club are currently lacking a prolific goalscorer.
Marriott has had no such problems in finding the net with Peterborough this season, scoring 24 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.
Football Insider verdict
Marriott has been in scintillating form for the Posh this season. A team like Leeds or Aston Villa will have to do very well to snap up the 23-year-old, especially as now Premier League clubs are beginning to become interest in the forward. West Ham look as though they may lose one or two of their strikers this month so could have to go out and buy another one. Crystal Palace have also been short of goals. But a step up from League One to the Premier League is huge and it would be naive of the two top-flight sides to think that he could keep up that scoring streak for them. Marriott does not look likely to leave London Road this season if the club owners’ comments are anything to go by.
In other Leeds United news, this £3million duo may be offloaded on temporary deals this month.
