Barcelona have rejected a new and improved bid from West Ham for midfielder Andre Gomes, Football Insider understands.

The Hammers have upped their original offer for the 25-year-old to around £21million in an attempt to beat Everton to the signing of their 2018-19 loanee.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that manager Manuel Pellegrini has made signing the central midfielder one of his priority targets this summer.

However, the Catalan club have snubbed the fresh offer from West Ham as they look to act fast to secure a deal.

The Londoners face strong competition from Everton, who have made it clear they want to sign the 29-times Portugal international permanently.

Everton did not agree a preferential option in the loan deal that took Gomes to Goodison Park last August, when he was one of three arrivals from Barcelona along with Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne.

Marco Silva said last month that Everton must do everything they can to sign Gomes permanently after he impressed in the 29 matches he made for the club last season.

The Portugese joined Barcelona from Valencia in 2016 but he was not a regular starter and the Spanish giants are willing to sell him if their valuation is met.
