West Ham plan £50m raid on PL rivals for attacking duo - report

By Derek Smtihson

West Ham are ready to fork out £50million to sign Arsenal duo Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, according to a report.

The Daily Star claim that the Hammers are prepared to spend a combined total of £50million to land the two attackers from their London rivals.

It is understood that the Gunners would not stand in the way of the pair leaving if they wanted to join Slaven Bilic’s side.

The report details that Arsene Wenger is planning a huge overhaul in his squad this summer and is ready to sell players on.

Walcott has been with Arsenal since 2006 and the right winger has developed into a crucial first-team player, making 383 appearances for the north London club.

The Englishman will be desperate to continue his good form and hold a starting position next season ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Giroud is a central striker and endured spells in and out of the team at the Emirates Stadium last season.

The France international made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring 16 goals and supplying seven assists.

Football Insider verdict:

West Ham need to bring in some top-class signings if they are to get back in the mix for the European spots and their superb new London Stadium deserves it. Arsenal duo Walcott and Giroud are slightly underrated at the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners fans demanding so much of their players. However, they are both proven performers in the Premier League and would be brilliant additions to Slaven Bilic’s squad. The Hammers lacked serious goal threats all of last season, but would be heavily boosted by the arrival of the duo. West Ham fans would be right to question the steep £50million fee they could end up turning, but it would guarantee players that could make an immediate impact, as appose to taking the risk of a new signing from another league.

In other West Ham transfer news, they have launched an £8.7million bid for a teenager.
