West Ham tipped to sign multiple 'big' players for £30m+ after confirmed news - pundit

West Ham must spend big on a new striker after the signing of Nayef Aguerd was confirmed.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hammers’ latest signing.

The Hammers confirmed on Monday (20 June) that they had signed Aguerd, 26, from Rennes on a five-year contract.

Sky Sports claimed on the same day that the Hammers had paid £30million for the defender.

He bolsters the defensive options available to David Moyes ahead of a season in which his side will once again be competing in European competition.

Kenny insists a new striker must now follow Aguerd through the door.

“This has to become the new normal at West Ham if they are going to stay where they are,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“£30million needs to be the fee they are paying for a lot of their players. I’m thinking of a new striker.

“That’s what needs to happen now, that is where they have to improve. They fell away at the end of last season without having another option other than Antonio.

“That needs to change if they are going to keep competing in Europe. They have the investment so now it is time to get more bodies in.

“Hopefully this is the first of many big signings for them.”

Aguerd, who is capped 19 times by Morocco, made 40 appearances across all competitions during the 2021-22 season.

He also helped his side to a 12th-placed finish in Ligue 1.
