West Ham are set to continue their pursuit of signing Liverpool ace Nathaniel Clyne despite Pablo Zabaleta's contract extension this week, Football Insider understands.

The Hammers announced on Wednesday evening that Zabaleta, 34, had extended his contract by another year and will remain at the club for a third campaign.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club are still ready to make a move for Clyne, 28, as they look to strengthen on the right side of their defence this summer.

Clyne has emerged on the London club's radar as Liverpool are willing to offload a player who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Bournemouth and is out of contract next year.

West Ham are lining up a bid for the ex-Crystal Palace ace, who is valued at above the £10million-mark by the Champions League semi-finalists.

Zabaleta and Ryan Fredericks have shared the right-back duties for Manuel Pellegrini's side this season, with the former making 23 league starts and the latter 10 league starts.

Clyne is regarded by Pellegrini as an upgrade on two-times Premier League winner Zabaleta and ex-Fulham star Fredericks.
