West Ham United: Premier League recognition proves Konstantinos Mavropanos exit is inevitable

West Ham United must now be expecting Konstantinos Mavropanos to move on this summer after he was recognised by the Premier League for his outstanding recent form.

Mavropanos has been nominated for April’s Premier League Player of the Month award after a stellar month in the Hammers’ backline.

He scored twice in their win over Wolves and helped the club complete an unbeaten month with a draw against Crystal Palace and another victory against Everton last weekend.

The Greek international has recently been linked with a possible move away from the London Stadium in the summer, regardless of whether they are relegated to the Championship.

Losing him would affect West Ham’s transfer plans ahead of next season, no matter which league they are in, but he looks to be moving closer to an exit after official recognition of his strong showings.

West Ham may have to accept Konstantinos Mavropanos’ departure after PL appreciation

Mavropanos’ early-season performances were questioned by Irons supporters, but he has looked like a completely different player under Nuno Espirito Santo in the last few months.

The 28-year-old is in the form of his life as West Ham battle to avoid the drop, with several top clubs taking notice of his recent performances.

Sources exclusively revealed to Football Insider last week that Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing Mavropanos, but the Hammers are also keen to offer him a new contract this summer.

He is believed to have his “heart set” on a move to the German giants, and such a move only looks more likely now that he is officially among some of the top-performing centre-backs in the league right now.

West Ham obviously have little hope of keeping him if they are relegated, but an exit seems pretty inevitable even if they survive, as Mavropanos will now know that he is capable of playing for a bigger club with more ambition.

What has Nuno said about Mavropanos exit links?

Mavropanos has matured into a key player under Nuno, hence why the club want him to sign fresh terms despite his current contract being set to run for another two years.

The Hammers manager played down talk of a potential exit for the Greek defender when asked about transfer links last week, saying: “In the summer (we will see what happens). But now, we don’t think about anything else other than our tasks in the game. Dinos is focused and committed, for sure.”

West Ham face four of the biggest games in their recent history next month, and Nuno is clearly insistent on shutting down transfer rumours so that his players can be in the right frame of mind to keep the club in the Premier League.

Mavropanos is surely set to leave the London Stadium no matter what happens regarding relegation, though, with his latest nomination proving that he is ready for the step up to a top side.
