West Ham: Konstantinos Mavropanos has ‘heart set’ on Borussia Dortmund move

West Ham United centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos has his “heart set” on a move to Borussia Dortmund this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old is subject to a growing level of interest from elsewhere in the Premier League, but it is understood that he would prefer a return to the Bundesliga if the chance arises for him this summer.

Dortmund are showing a keen interest in the Greek international ahead of the window, and sources have indicated that the idea of a move to play in the Champions League is something that seriously appeals to the player.

Mavropanos has been a key figure for West Ham in recent weeks amid their ongoing fight for Premier League survival, but it now looks increasingly likely that he will be leaving the London Stadium ahead of next term.

West Ham’s transfer plans are set to see them try to strengthen their hand to avoid another relegation battle next term, but they are also expected to sacrifice some players in order to balance their books.

Who else could West Ham sell this summer?

Mavropanos’ future has been up in the air of late, with Florian Plettenberg even suggesting that Dortmund have already held internal talks about the idea of making a move for him.

The former Arsenal man is part of a core group of talented players at the East London outfit, who have all attracted a significant level of interest since the January window.

Mateus Fernandes’ impressive performances in his debut campaign for the Hammers have seen him fall onto Manchester City’s radar, as he continues to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

Crysencio Summerville has also attracted interest from the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa, while the perennial links over a move elsewhere for Jarrod Bowen are beginning to resurface once again.

West Ham are aware that they will need to offload some players in order to bring in cash for new additions, but exactly how they will go about sanctioning that remains to be seen.

Their transfer plans are set to remain uncertain until they find out which league they will be playing in next season, meaning any big decisions are likely still a way off for them.

Hammers to make exit difficult for Konstantinos Mavropanos

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that West Ham are prepared to let Mavropanos leave this summer, but any deal will be conducted firmly on their terms.

The former recruitment man suggested that it will take a “huge fee” for his old employers to cough up the defender ahead of next season, with the club having a clear desire to net a figure that could be used to reinvest in the squad.

Brown also acknowledged that it is “not a good sign” that talk of the centre-back moving on has emerged at such a crucial stage of the season, with the team still fighting for their lives to stay in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, he also noted that the Hammers will be in a good position to secure a capable replacement for Mavropanos if they can end the campaign on the right side of the dotted line.
