Crysencio Summerville edges closer to Premier League 'despite what I'm led to believe'
Crysencio Summerville is edging closer to a move away from West Ham United this summer with Premier League clubs readying offers.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a strong start to his World Cup campaign with the Netherlands as he found the net during a 2-2 draw with Japan in their opening game.
While Premier League clubs were originally believed to have cooled their interest, with a move abroad more likely, there is a strong chance that could change.
Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that at least one English club is keeping tabs on Summerville's performances at the World Cup.
After a strong start to the tournament, he is already showing glimpses of talent which could convince clubs to make a move before he is snapped up.
There had been speculation about a potential move to Roma, but while that talk has seemingly faded, Premier League clubs could step in to stop him going abroad.
Will Crysencio Summerville leave West Ham this summer?
Football Insider revealed last month that West Ham are bracing to receive offers for Summerville and believe his departure is inevitable following their relegation.
Dropping into the Championship will likely force the Hammers to sell players, placing a number of clubs on alert over his potential availability.
A return to the Premier League is now believed to be firmly on the cards as, despite having doubts, his World Cup display has already grabbed renewed attention.
"Premier League clubs already know all there is to know about Summerville," Brown told Football Insider.
"They know what he can do when he's at his best, how good he is with the ball at his feet, and his ability to beat a man is something that will always appeal to clubs.
"But they also know about his inconsistency, how he can go missing in games, and how he will go mutliple games without providing any sort of attacking output.
"On that basis, I was led to believe that interest from clubs in the Premier League had faded and it was more likely that he would move abroad.
"But they will be keeping tabs on his performances at the World Cup, and in my experience, clubs can often act rashly based on performances on the international stage.
"I would always warn against signing a player based on the World Cup, especially when you already know plenty about him, but it is something that can happen.
"After his performance against Japan, it wouldn't surprise me at all if an English club decided to take a gamble on him after all and look to keep him in the Premier League.
"They will have seen his performance and the goal he scored, and that version of him at his best will always be an attractive prospect."
Which Premier League clubs could sign Summerville?
Summerville is no stranger to Premier League clubs, who will already know all about his talent and the pros and cons of his game after spells at West Ham and Leeds.
However, clubs could be tempted to make a move regardless of concerns, with the likes of Tottenham having been keeping a close eye on his performances for months.
Spurs had originally considered making a move during the January transfer window before any deal was blocked, but could now be tempted to return.
Meanwhile, Football Insider shared reports that Aston Villa are interested in signing Summerville amid concerns they could lose at least one winger in the transfer window.
His former club Leeds have also been tipped to make a move for a reunion at Elland Road, having secured their place in the top flight ahead of next season.
