Crysencio Summerville has just been guilt-tripped after West Ham deal agreed
Jarrod Bowen has proven his love for West Ham United by putting pen to paper on a new deal ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
While the new contract doesn't change the expiration date of his deal, it puts an end to all the speculation around his potential departure.
There was a real concern that the club captain could seek an exit after West Ham were relegated to the Championship, but that is no more.
Given Bowen's experience in the second tier, there is every chance that he will be able to lead the Hammers to promotion next term, but only with the right players by his side.
Sadly, Nuno Espirito Santo has already had to bid farewell to superstar midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham Hotspur for £85million.
Daniel Kretinsky quickly batted away the idea that West Ham needed to raise £100m in player sales earlier this summer, and now the club are even better off financially after Fernandes' exit.
Will Crysencio Summerville follow in Jarrod Bowen's footsteps?
Understandably, multiple members of the squad are expected to follow Fernandes through the exit doors, especially Crysencio Summerville.
Roma appear to be edging closer to a £40m deal for the former Leeds United winger, but Bowen has now set a precedent in East London.
It is never as simple as this, but the current squad got West Ham relegated. The current players should feel a guilt and pressure to get them promoted again.
Given Summerville's experience and knowledge of the Championship, he would be the perfect character to partner Bowen in attack.
And if he truly cared about the club, wanting to repay the trust shown in him during his injury recovery, he would stay and fight for the badge.
Only time will tell what Summerville decides to do with his future.
West Ham may already be targeting Summerville's replacement
What Summerville should do, and he will do or two completely different things.
In the likely outcome that the 24-year-old leaves, the Hammers will be desperate for a replacement, and one Championship star would be perfect.
Stoke City's Sorba Thomas has already been linked with a move to the London Stadium, and it is hardly surprising after the 2025-26 campaign.
The Welshman notched 10 goals and 11 assists in 47 games last season, ending 2025-26 as the joint-third highest goal contributor in the division.
