Konstantinos Mavropanos destined for West Ham exit after Greece's historic win vs Germany

Konstantinos Mavropanos is easily one of West Ham United's most important players for their charge back to the Premier League.

He has been an absolute rock at the back for Nuno Espirito Santo, even adding four goals and an assist to his game in nine appearances.

His heading ability makes him one of the most dangerous players inside both penalty areas in the Championship in 2026-27.

That form has clearly translated to the international stage, and certainly in Greece's historic 1-0 win over Germany on Sunday, 27 September.

It was the Greek's first win over the Germans since 2000, pouring yet more cold water over Jurgen Klopp's spell as the opposition's manager.

While Mavropanos didn't get on the scoresheet, his underlying stats from the game are simply eye-opening, grabbing plenty of attention ahead of the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old defender played all 90 minutes, finished with the most defensive contributions (17), created one chance and had two shots [FotMob].

With his 48 touches, Mavropanos also completed 100 per cent of his dribbles, made three tackles and 12 clearances, and was utterly dominant in the air.

As well as winning 100 per cent of his ground duels, the centre-half won all five of his aerial duels, all while never committing a single foul.

Even if West Ham are able to secure promotion straight back to the Premier League this season, there is no guarantee that he stays.

Mavropanos will feel that he deserves a spot in a team battling for Europe, rather than one floating around the yo-yo between promotion and relegation.

Any interest, whether that be in January or next summer, would not be surprising in the slightest. West Ham have been here before.

In the summer just gone, Mick Brown told Football Insider that Coventry City were in the hunt for the Greek international's signature.

Leeds United were also one of the teams interested, while Mavropanos was also understood to have his heart set on Borussia Dortmund.

The Hammers managed to keep their star defender, but it could be just a matter of time before he finally seals a move away from the London Stadium.
