Stefan Borson baffled by Amanda Staveley latest at West Ham

Amanda Staveley's continued pursuit of West Ham United shares is making for a "strange" situation at the London Stadium.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the current West Ham owners have shown "no appetite" for new investment.

Staveley, formerly of Newcastle United, has long been linked with a return to the Premier League, most recently with taking over Everton from The Friedkin Group.

Despite the situation unfolding at the Hill Dickinson, it is understood that the 53-year-old remains interested in coming aboard in East London.

Staveley had agreed to buy the Gold Family's shares before Daniel Kretinsky used his right of first refusal to slam the door shut on her investment.

While the Toffees would be a much simpler situation for the talented businesswoman, the London Stadium is clearly stuck in her mind at this moment in time.

Amanda Staveley to West Ham 'makes no sense'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson admitted that he simply can't understand the fascination with West Ham when other options are available.

"First of all, it looks like she must have already spent quite a lot of exploring it. Secondly, I just don't see how without, effectively, an invitation in by Kretinsky, there's even an option," he said.

"So I think she's obviously got some ideas around the property side of things around Stratford. That's probably what's underpinning the entire valuation that she's pursuing in respect to it.

"Therefore, the money is there because of the property angle. And if the money's there, then why wouldn't you try and pursue it? But I just don't see any appetite from the current owners.

"So it is a bit of a strange one. Until there's something a bit more concrete, it still looks to me unlikely.

"But then, likewise, the stories do keep coming and usually they do die down. It doesn't make a lot of sense on the face of it, that's for sure."

Why is Staveley fascinated with the London Stadium?

While it seems unusual from the outside, the London Stadium does hold a lot of potential for anyone trying to do it up, inside and out.

Knocking the whole stadium down and rebuilding, like many supporters want, would be massively expensive, but no impossible project.

Populous, the firm behind the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, are now looking into further regeneration in the surrounding area, which is an exciting prospect.

There is plenty of space for growth around the London Stadium, which might explain why Staveley is so interested in getting involved.
