Amanda Staveley faces 'enormous' West Ham takeover problem - Stefan Borson

Amanda Staveley would face an "enormous" cost of redeveloping the London Stadium were she to come aboard at West Ham United.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that he finds the interest in the Championship club "strange".

Staveley, formerly of Newcastle United, has long been linked with a return to football, with interest in West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium would appear to be the most likely destination for the 53-year-old, but sources close to PCP Capital have denied any links.

Staveley and her consortium got down to the final two parties in 2024, but the Toffees ultimately went with the Friedkin Group (TFG) instead.

Now, West Ham and Spurs are back in the conversation, but a move to East London may cost Staveley considerably more than expected.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson is struggling to understand why Staveley is so heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium.

"It seems very strange that you would be interested in West Ham, with quite a pricey valuation for a club that's in the Championship," he said.

"Especially for a minority position. The property angle at West Ham is interesting in that it's in London. But the cost of fixing that problem appears to be enormous.

"She obviously got people in that consortium that want certain things, and it may be that they particularly want London."

Borson has previously stated that the best idea for the London Stadium would be to knock it down completely and rebuild, but that would cost in the region of £1billion.

Everton opportunity is much better than West Ham

Sources close to the situation seem to believe that Everton is not an option for TFG, which is a surprise for one experienced financial expert.

"The Everton stadium is a different property opportunity around a newly developed and underdeveloped area of Liverpool," he told Football Insider.

"So there's all sorts of things that you can do on the stretch, out to the stadium and around the stadium, so I am surprised by that."

Things could certainly change in the future, once TFG clear up the situation on Merseyside, so nothing should be ruled out for Staveley.
