West Ham United are now the odds-on favourites to sign clinical attacker Troy Parrott from AZ Alkmaar this summer transfer window.

Reports emerged on Thursday that the Hammers are set to make a “big play” for the 24-year-old striker, who has emerged as a top talent in recent years.

The attacker hit headlines last season when he netted five goals in two matches for the Republic of Ireland to ensure that they qualified for the 2026 World Cup playoffs.

Now, one UK bookmaker believes it’s highly likely that he will make a move to the London Stadium this season after they slashed the odds down to 1/2.

Parrott had a highly successful season at AZ in the last campaign as he netted 31 times in 48 matches in all competitions.

This helped the Dutch club lift the KNVB Cup, with AZ also winning the Johan Cruyff Shield last weekend.

How good is Troy Parrott?

Since moving to AZ, Parrott has really come to life and has emerged as one of the most clinical strikers in Europe.

His previous struggles at Tottenham Hotspur, where he failed to break into the first-team, have been long forgotten.

In his past three campaigns in the Eredivisie, Parrott has netted at least 17 goals and has improved his tally year upon year.

According to Fotmob on 6 August, his stats were also highly impressive last season.

Overall, he averaged 0.65 goals, a 0.71 xG, 3.59 shots, 1.75 shots on target, 0.16 assists, a 0.14 xA, 1.02 chances created and 0.24 big chances created.

Therefore, if Alex Crook’s report about West Ham’s interest is correct, and the club are able to bring in Parrott, Nuno Espirito Santo could have a fabulous new addition at his disposal.

Who else are West Ham looking to sign this summer?

Another player West Ham are looking to bring through the door is Arne Engels.

The Celtic star was fundamental to the club’s domestic double last season, in what was another impressive individual campaign.

Now, Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Engels has agreed personal terms with West Ham United over a potential move.

However, it remains to be seen if the two clubs are able to agree on a suitable fee before the transfer window closes.
