West Ham expected to agree 'perfect' deal to sign Arsenal star

West Ham United are pressing forward in talks to sign Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson as they aim to strengthen before the window closes.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side start life in the Championship with a visit to face Burnely at Turf Moor, but are still working hard behind the scenes to get transfer business done.

Despite the season beginning, there is a feeling that their squad is not yet complete, and landing the 26-year-old will be the next step towards reaching their targets.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Nelson's potential move to the London Stadium could be "perfect" for everybody involved.

The winger spent last season on loan at Brentford, where he made just three starts across all competitions and failed to start a single Premier League game.

A drop down into the Championship is seen as the ideal step for him to regain his confidence and get regular playing time, with Nuno keen to strengthen out wide.

What is the latest on Reiss Nelson to West Ham?

Brown told Football Insider on 11 August that West Ham are working on a deal to sign Nelson and could finally agree a deal, having been long-term admirers of the winger.

Arsenal are ready to see Nelson move on before the window closes, and West Ham are prepared to step up their interest in a move which could benefit all parties.

The move is seen as ideal for West Ham to strengthen out wide, while the player would finally be given a more long-term chance, with a permanent move to suit more than a loan.

"This looks like the type of move that could be ideal for everybody involved," Brown told Football Insider.

"It seems it will be a permanent deal rather than a loan, which immediately will work out because Arsenal want to move him on without it being another loan deal.

"In that respect, it's the perfect signing because I can't imagine he will cost a big fee, and West Ham can address an area of the squad that needs improving.

"Plus, for the player, he can start to build up his confidence in a stable environment without it being in the back of his mind that the deal is only a short-term one.

"Sometimes it can be difficult going on loan if things aren't quite working out, but a permanent deal gives a lot more incentive to perform.

"Dropping into the Championship might be the step he needs to take to get back to his best and start playing regular football again.

"Plus, as I said before, West Ham want to bring in a new winger and Nelson is somebody they have admired for a while, so I expect the deal will be done in the near future."

Which other deals are West Ham working on?

As they enter the closing stages of the summer transfer window, West Ham are working on a number of deals to improve their squad and bolster their promotion bid.

Nuno is looking to lead his squad back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, and feels the addition of a new striker will be required to get them over the line.

As a result, Brown told Football Insider on 4 August that West Ham are eyeing a move to sign AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott in the latter stages of the window.

The Republic of Ireland international enjoyed an outstanding season for AZ in 2025-26, as he scored 31 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitons.

However, the Hammers will find it tough to convince the 24-year-old to move to the second tier of English football amid top-level interest from rivals across Europe.
