West Ham player who lost 100% of his duels vs Wrexham must be nowhere near Nuno's XI

Nuno Espirito Santo would have been delighted with West Ham United's performance in the 6-0 romping of Wrexham.

The Hammers finally moved to the top of the Championship table following the result at the London Stadium on Friday, 11 September.

Of course, that is the very least being expected of the East London club after being relegated from the Premier League last season, and rightly so.

It has taken quite some time for the squad to gel properly, but the six-goal game at the London Stadium proved that the team does have the minerals.

In the 67th minute, academy prospect Ollie Scarles replaced Morato, and it was possibly the worst performance of the night from those in West Ham colours.

The 20-year-old full-back has experienced quite a difficult start to the 2026-27 campaign, it is fair to say, and it didn't get much better against Wrexham.

In 23 minutes, despite creating a chance, it was his defensive failures that were highlighted, especially when the night was all about goals.

He committed a very reckless foul, picking up a yellow card after scything down Issa Kabore, and just failing to deal with the late pressure [FotMob].

He lost 100 per cent of both his ground duels and aerial duels, and Morato was far more impressive at left-back despite playing out of position.

It seems harsh throwing a 20-year-old under the bus, but when Nuno requires perfection from his team, he cannot afford any mistakes.

Age is certainly not the problem, but rather that Scarles simply isn't up to the standard that West Ham require for their promotion hopes.

This is evidenced by Divin Mukasa's display against Wrexham, even if the 19-year-old loanee failed to register a goal contribution during the game.

Completing the full 90 minutes, Mukasa completed 87 per cent of his passes, 10 of which went into the final third, and won 100 per cent of his aerial duels [FotMob].

He was everywhere on the pitch, making nine recoveries, one block and one interception, all while taking 74 touches, as those around him grabbed the headlines.
