Noel Whelan has claimed Stuart Dallas’ fitness levels are “through the roof” after Diego Llorente marvelled at his Leeds United teammate.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites and Coventry striker heaped praise on Dallas for his “incredible” stoppage time winner against Manchester City.
The 29-year-old scored a brace on Saturday, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat league-leaders Manchester City 2-1 despite having been reduced to 10 men on the stroke of half-time.
Llorente told LUTV he “could not believe” Dallas had the energy to produce a lung-busting run in the 91st minute to seal a memorable victory for the visitors.
Dallas, who has played long periods of the campaign as a full-back, has now contributed seven goals and two assists in 31 Premier League appearances this season.
When asked for his assessment of Dallas’ performance, Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “Just simply immense.
“He was my player of the year last season and he hasn’t let up since then. He has been exactly the same this year. The man is just incredible for Leeds United.
“Everything you want from a player, he has got: character, desire, hunger and professionalism. The last goal highlights that.
“He was busting a gut to get forward having done so much defensive work. He should have been drained and shattered but what a run.
“He is Mr. Leeds at the moment. Dallas can do no wrong, whatever position you play him in.
“His fitness levels are through the roof. When you are shattered, to produce a finish and run like that… Wow, incredible.”
Speaking on Dallas’ late winner, Llorente told LUTV: “I could not believe it, because all the team was very tired.
“I don’t know where he got the energy, but he got the goal, so I am very very happy for him and for all the team.”
