Whelan blasts Costa after Leeds source update
Noel Whelan has admitted he grew incredibly “frustrated” by Helder Costa after securing a loan move from Leeds United to Valencia.
The former White striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the winger could rediscover his best form in Spain after failing to impress at Elland Road.
Football Insider revealed last week (September 1st) that Costa is not expected to play for the club again after completing a loan spell with Valencia.
The Spanish side announced the season-long loan signing of the ex-Wolves winger on deadline day (August 31st).
Valencia have an option to buy Costa at the end of the loan but a Leeds source has told Football Insider that he is expected to leave Elland Road regardless of whether it is triggered.
Whelan insisted that the loan could help bring the best out of the winger after flattering to decieve at Elland Road.

“I think he needed that change,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“He’s got everything in his makeup. He’s got all the ability, the pace, the skill, but we just didn’t see it enough at Leeds.
“That inconsistency in his performances was frustrating for a lot of the fans because we know what he can do on his day.
“When you’ve seen it in one game, and then don’t see it in the next couple of games – everyone wonders why he can’t replicate that form across a string of games.
“He’s got an opportunity to stake a claim out there in Spain now and really lock a position down at Valencia.
“We might see the best of him there, and it could help him when he comes back if he rediscovers that confidence and belief.”
Costa has struggled since signing permanently for Leeds last season for £15million.
His contract at the Whites runs until 2024.
