Whelan 'excited' by Celtic signing Furuhashi amid Rangers verdict
Noel Whelan is “excited” by the prospect of watching new Celtic signing Kyogo Furuhashi next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker is impressed by the 26-year-old goal record and said he “could turn out to be a great signing”.
On Friday, Celtic confirmed the signing of the Japan international on a four-year deal from J-League side Vissel Kobe.
Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou knows Furuhashi well from his three years in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos.
Speaking to the club’s website, Postecoglou said the forward will “add something special” his squad.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Furuhashi, Whelan said: “It’s an exciting signing.

“It is no surprise to see Postecoglou return to a country where he has been managing to sign a player. He clearly knows him well.
“Only time will tell if he can adapt to Scottish football but his goal record is impressive.
“Celtic need new faces through the door. They need to fresh up things and this could turn out to be a great signing.
“I’m sure the Celtic fans are excited about seeing him.
“Rangers got the signings right last season and it made a hell of a difference. They managed them much better. It is really important that the signings who come through hit the ground running because the gap to Rangers was far too big last season.”
Furuhashi leaves Vissel Kobe the J-League’s top scorer with 15 goals in 21 games this season.
He’s scored three times in six appearances for Japan.
