Whelan in awe of 'superb' O'Brien after agent breaks silence on Leeds 'interest'
Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien “could be something special” at Leeds United, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Whites and Middlesbrough striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is hopeful that Victor Orta can seal a deal for the “superb” 22-year-old this summer.
According to The Sun on Sunday (04/07, p. 60), Leeds have joined the race to sign the highly-rated midfielder as Marcelo Bielsa looks to add more legs into his midfield.
Huddersfield are said to want £10million for their prized asset, who has just one year remaining on his contract.
Speaking to LUFC Fanzone, O’Brien’s agent Kevin Sharp said he was “unaware of any interest” for Leeds United.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on O’Brien potentially joining the Whites, Whelan said:

“O’Brien is a superb player technically and he is aggressive in that central midfield area. He’s been their standout player over the past couple of seasons.
“We know a lot about his talent in West Yorkshire but I feel like there is a lot more to come from him.
“He could be something special if he comes to Leeds because he is a very exciting midfielder, there’s no doubt about it. Hopefully we can get that over the line.”
O’Brien contributed three goals and three assists in 42 Championship appearances last season.
He won the Terriers’ Player of the Year award on his debut season in 2019-20.
