Whelan issues Leeds 'brilliant signing' claim after Firpo confession
Noel Whelan has backed Junior Firpo to become a “good signing” for Leeds United after a difficult start to life at Elland Road.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the Whites must “persist” with the 25-year-old.
Speaking at his press conference (30th September), Marcelo Bielsa claimed Firpo will be a full-back who “shines a lot” when he gets up to speed with the Premier League.
The Argentine also defended the left-back’s form, confessing while he is yet to deliver a “seven-point performance”, he has not given less than a “six-point performance”.
The summer signing has started six of Leeds’ seven Premier League games this term.
He helped the Whites keep their first clean sheet in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Watford.

Whelan backed Firpo to continue developing into a well-established first-team star.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You’ve got to persist with him. It’s difficult.
“He wasn’t a regular at Barcelona. He played and trained with them but he wasn’t a regular. Coming to the Premier League, we know that it’s a different level of fitness and quality that’s required.
“No disrespect to La Liga there but, it is the hardest and toughest league in the world. You’ve got to persist with him.
“We’ve seen some really good things and there are some things that he needs to learn. You’ve got to give him that time and that opportunity.
“You can see that, in time, he will be a brilliant left-back. At the minute there’s goods and bads.
“That’s just the learning process of moving to another country, playing a different style with new teammates in the Premier League.
“I think he’ll be a good signing in the future. Right now, he’s still finding his feet in the Premier League.”
