Leeds United may offload Helder Costa this summer even though their hopes of signing Ryan Kent have been dashed.
That is the view of former Whites and Coventry striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Marcelo Bielsa’s long-standing interest in Rangers’ Kent, 24.
This site broke the news on Tuesday that the former Liverpool winger is set to snub interest from Leeds to stay at Ibrox next season.
The Premier League side were plotting a move for Kent this summer following an impressive campaign in Scotland which has yielded 12 goals and 13 assists already.
Football Insider understands the Yorkshire club will now move onto other targets.
Whelan believes Bielsa’s interest in Kent says a lot about the future of Helder Costa.
“Kent is a smashing player and he would really enhance our squad,” he told Football Insider.
“Bielsa has been an admirer of him for a long time. I believe he had a meeting with Jurgen Klopp at a game against Bradford and he was looking at him then as well.
“If we could offload Helder Costa and bring Kent in for a hit of about £10m I would bite your hand off.
“I just do not think Costa is up to it at Leeds and the fact they are looking at another winger does not bode well for him.”
Football Insider revealed last month that Leeds are willing to listen to offers for Costa this summer.
The Portuguese winger has contributed two goals and three assists in 22 appearances this season.
