Whelan: Leeds told to sign upgrade on 'Jekyll and Hyde' after key Alioski update
Leeds United must sign a new left-back this summer as they “get Jekyll and Hyde” out of Ezgjan Alioski, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is frustrated by the 29-year-old having watched him produce a “terrible performance” against Brighton and then an “exceptional performance” against Tottenham.
Alioski produced an eye-catching display on Saturday, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat Spurs 3-1 at Elland Road.
Football Insider revealed last week that club chiefs have heard nothing from the wide-man on his future plans but are not expecting him to be at the club next season.
The North Macedonia international was tabled a new contract offer by the Yorkshire club months ago but he has not put pen to paper.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Alioski’s form, Whelan said: “Alioski went from a terrible performance to an exceptional performance.

“He was up there for man of the match with Stuart Dallas against Spurs.
“You get Jekyll and Hyde out of Alioski which can be frustrating at times. We complimented him on three really good performances last month and then against Brighton he was woeful and then against another top six side he is excellent. That is the frustration with Alioski.
“The intelligence and execution of the pass into Bamford you have to commend. Many players would have slashed it across the front of goal. He made the right decision.
“You have to applaud his professionalism. He has great enthusiasm for the game of football. He is not one that cries about anything.
“I’m sure he is a great personality in the dressing room and all of the lads must like him. He’s done a great job in a position that is not his natural one but it’s time for us to upgrade. He falls short on his defensive capabilities too often.”
