Nuno is 'one of the best' after Gold reveals major Tottenham update - pundit
Nuno Espirito Santo is “one of the best candidates left” for Tottenham in their manager search, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 47-year-old “fits the bill” for Spurs given his man-management skills and brand of football.
Tottenham appear to be back to square one in their search for Jose Mourinho’s successor after talks with Paulo Fonseca fell through last week.
According to Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold (20 June), Nuno Espirito Santo is a manager liked by new Spurs director of football Fabio Paratici.
The ex-Wolves, Porto and Valencia boss is without a club following his departure from Molineux.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Nuno would be a smart choice, Whelan said: “I think Nuno is one of the best candidates left to Spurs.

“He did a great job at Wolves. He has excellent man-management skills and he certainly knows how to organise a team. I would not be too unhappy with that appointment if I was a Spurs fan.
“Nuno fits the bill better than most in my opinion. He knows what the Premier League is all about and he will know the Spurs squad well. Wolves played exciting football and we know that is very important for Spurs next season.
“If he was to walk in there though he knows he faces a hell of a battle to get back into the top four.
“They have not got much money to spend on refreshing that squad. You would need to give him time to build.
“There is definitely worse names that have been interviewed, put it that way.”
