Whelan predicts Tottenham to beat Everton to Coady signing after Wolves update
Noel Whelan has tipped Tottenham to beat Everton in the battle to sign Conor Coady from Wolves this summer.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the lure of working with Nuno Espirito Santo would trump a move back to Merseyside for the 28-year-old.
As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (July 1st), Tottenham are ready for a bidding war with Everton in the race to sign Coady.
The Liverpool-born defender was discussed as a priority target between Nuno and Spurs ahead of the 47-year-old’s arrival as manager.
However, newly-appointed Everton boss Rafael Benitez is also a fan and the Toffees are expected to push for Coady’s capture.
However, Whelan suggested the chance to reunite with former boss Nuno would be a decisive factor for the defender, who, a Wolves source told this site, is valued at around the £40m mark.

Asked who the favourites were for Coady, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I would probably say Tottenham.
“That’s because of the relationship he has with Nuno. I think he’s been away from home for such a long time, he has probably got used to that anyway. Sometimes as a player, you know you’re going to move around.
“I think sometimes when you’re going to spend the majority of your time playing at a training ground, working with the lads, with a manager, you want that to be as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible.
“It’s your livelihood, it’s your career, it’s your work. I do believe the relationship between player and manager comes before going back home.
“Maybe it would work, maybe not, with Rafa. You never know but he’s spoilt for choice there between two fantastic clubs.”
