Whelan thrilled after Leeds complete signing of 'another diamond' as McGurk joins
Noel Whelan has raved over the youth recruitment at Leeds United after the capture of Sean McGurk from Wigan Athletic.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Whites had secured another “diamond” in the teenage attacker.
Leeds confirmed McGurk’s capture on Thursday (July 8th), with the 18-year-old penning a three-year deal.
He is seen as one for the future and will initially link up with the under-23s at Thorp Arch.
Leeds have also brought in teenage winger Amari Miller from Birmingham City this summer.

Whelan lauded the Whites for their focus on signing hot prospects as well as ready-made talent.
He suggested McGurk would be another “gem” for the under-23s.
“Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “We’ve delved into Wigan again and plucked another one of their diamonds and gems in that young team.
“We’re always on the lookout for young, up and coming players. Players who can progress, improve and hopefully bed into the first team in seasons to come.
“That will never change for Leeds. We’ve always had a setup that has always brought promising young players to the club and bedded them into the first team after a couple of seasons if they progress the right way.
“It’s a no-brainer, you’re not spending much money. You’re getting a player with loads of potential.
“Hopefully, he’ll flourish into the player that we’ve brought into Leeds United.”
McGurk is yet to make his professional debut after coming through the youth ranks at Wigan.
He scored 13 goals for the Latics’ under-18s last season to help them become Professional Development League National champions.
