Noel Whelan has urged Leeds United to make a move for Glen Kamara despite reports earlier this year that Rangers are in talks about a new contract for the player.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Marcelo Bielsa will be a fan of the Rangers ace.
In March, the Scottish Sun reported that Kamara was in talks with Rangers over a new deal with his current contract set to expire in 2023.
Earlier this month, the Daily Mail reported that Leeds still hold an interest in the midfielder and that Rangers are ‘fighting’ to hold onto their asset.
As it stands, there has been no announcement about a new deal for Kamara as clubs continue to be linked with a summer move.
Whelan has urged Leeds to make a move for Kamara as he would bring quality to the midfield as well as more competition for places.
“He brings quality, Steven Gerrard recognises how important he is to Rangers,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“That’s why he wants to tie him down on a new contract. Good players will always be looked at and that’s the problem.
“What he’ll bring is energy, aggression, quality passing and Marcelo Bielsa likes players with energy, players who can get around the field.
“He would bring those fitness levels and also quality and competition to that midfield position.”
Kamara, 25, has been ever-present for Rangers this season, making 30 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign.
He has two goals to his name this year with the better of the two strikes being a thunderous long-range effort scored against Benfica in the group stage of the Europa League.
