Wilfried Gnonto: Leeds plan to accept new offer with Premier League club ‘keen’

Wilfried Gnonto is growing increasingly likely to leave Leeds United this summer as he is no longer part of Daniel Farke’s first-team plans.

The 22-year-old has struggled for game time since their promotion to the Premier League and is now believed to be open to a move away in the window.

Farke does not see him playing a role beyond the end of the season as he aims to strengthen his squad in attacking areas and the club are now prepared to cash in.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds hope they can raise funds from Gnonto’s departure to reinvest into their squad.

This comes after Farke laid down the gauntlet to the board and insisted he must be backed this summer, ahead of what could be a busy transfer window for Leeds.

Will Leeds United let Wilfried Gnonto leave?

Football Insider revealed on 19 May that Gnonto could push to leave Leeds this summer due to his lack of playing time since their promotion last season.

A fee of around £15million would likely be enough to lure him away, with a number of clubs across Europe believed to have been keeping tabs on him.

At least one Premier League side are also believed to have been tracking the winger’s progress, and while he is now unlikely to stay in England, it cannot be ruled out.

“Leeds are prepared to let Gnonto leave this summer,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They’re going to assess their squad after staying in the Premier League, and he is one who could be moved on if they want to raise money for new players.

“The manger doesn’t rate him, he doesn’t see him as part of his plans for the future, and he’s hardly played this season, so it would be best for everybody if he moves on.

“He’s shown before that he can give you flashes of quality, he’s just not consistent enough and that’s why Leeds don’t want him, but somebody will be willing to take a gamble on him.

“I’m sure there will be Premier League clubs who have been keen on him, but I don’t think that’ll happen just because of how little he’s played this season.

“A move to a European league where there’s less pressure, less physical demand and he has more time to do what he does best would be ideal.”

Could Gnonto stay in the Premier League next season?

Gnonto’s future remains up in the air as things stand, but as he edges closer towards leaving Leeds, clubs across Europe are likely to be placed on alert.

Among those are potential Premier League suitors, with the Italy international having been a long-term target since his performances in the Championship.

Football Insider first reported in 2024 that Everton were interested in signing Gnonto and the interest from the Toffees may have lingered since then.

They were keeping a close eye on his situation and came close to signing him before a deal fell through, and could now reignite their interest if he becomes available.

Despite that, a move to another Premier League club is consdiered unlikely at this stage, with a return to Italy the most likely move for the winger.
