Nuno Espirito Santo and co. can break Aston Villa fans’ hearts by stealing in on a move for reported target, QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo.
The R’s ace, a former Tottenham youth product, is in some of the best form of his career and has scored four goals in his last seven games for the London club, as well as starring for Australia in their recent internationals.
Luongo is under contract until 2020 but would provide excellent cover should Wolves ace Ruben Neves succumb to injury at any point – they will need proven quality in the area and the 25-year-old is showing he is that.
Now that promotion to the Premier League is just a stone’s throw away, as good as Nuno’s side is in the Championship, the rigours of the English top-flight are a different prospect altogether.
While the backup options are fine in their current position, Wolves could be found out with a couple of injuries in the Premier division.
Luongo’s mentor and former Tottenham scout David Magrone believes that Luongo is ready for a step up to the top league, declaring the midfielder as good as, if not better than a number of Tottenham players who featured alongside the 25-year-old during his time at White Hart Lane.
“When I was at Tottenham (as chief European scout) Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, Jake Livermore and Nabil Bentaleb all broke through.
“Mass is just as good, if not better than all of them.”
Strengthening is needed for Wolves’ journey into the Premier League and with the Australian international in the ranks, they will be a stronger squad.
